Over the past week Perth has suffered with extreme lightning storms. This has resulted in massive electrical problems and we have been called out to many homes and bushiness across Perth because of it.
We have originally been called out for a general fault such as a tripping RCD etc. Further inspection found much more severe problems, in some cases all appliances has been destroyed such as fridges, TV’s, Air conditioners, laptops etc
These situations normally involve an insurance claim, but it is timely and costly inconvenience, so we have provided some tips to help you in the next occasion of bad weather.
1. Unplug As many appliances as possible & Turn off Light switches
2. Use extension leads with built in surge protectors – You may not be home to unplug items so a good surge protector extention lead is always a good last line of defense
3. Install a Surge Protector in Switchboard – Surge Protectors can be Installed directly into your Switchboard, This will Protect appliances that cant unplug such as air conditioners, Light fittings etc
It is quite unlucky for your house to be affected by a lightning strike, however we have received a high volume of calls because of them lately, so why take the chance, prepare your home as much as possible……. We hope these tips help…. stay safe!
